Excessive fear, envy, or suspicion of wealth and the power of wealthy people.
The word averice fails to define the rising suspicion and mistrust aimed at wealth and the wealthy; that such wealth in few hands is unfair to others lacking wealth; that some means of taking wealth from the wealthy, through taxing or some other means of redistribution, is a reasonable, rational, solution to societies woes. A succinct word, such as affluephobia, would be appropriate.
